Apartment for Rent

I know, I know. I have been pretty lame about this home renovation blog. But I am proud to announce that I finally have some pictures to share. The house is still currently under construction so I will add pics as things are completed.
Our first completion, the basement apartment.
I don't want to come off as a beggar, but I've had five babies and no longer have any pride, so I will beg anyway...if any of you know of someone who needs a place to live send them our way. I would love, love, love to have a tenant referred by word of mouth. There's just something uber creepy about letting a complete stranger live in your basement. Rent includes all utilites (except phone) and satellite.
Drum roll please...

One of the two bedrooms before.

The two bedrooms after. All new paint, carpet, doors, lights and blinds.

The living room before.

The living room now. Again, new carpet, paint, light. Through the doorway is the laundry/mud room with new paint, light and laminate floors.

The kitchen nook before.

The kitchen nook now. Sorry, the box doesn't come with the apartment.

The kitchen before.

The kitchen now. All new cabinets, hardware and counters.

The bathroom before.

The bathroom now. Now paint, sinks, hardware, light, counters and cabinets.

If you know anyone who may be interested let us know. We are ready to rent the place out yesterday. Thanks.

Forgive me.

This is for the fam who have been asking me to post pics of the house. To you I plead forgiveness. I have been taking pics...plenty of them. But, somewhere between point A and point B my blessed camera cord has gone missing. I have checked high and low without success. I have tried inserting my media card into every computer orifice possible, but still no success. I would ask you to be patient, but most of you are coming up tomorrow and will see it so...
And to my friends who have been asking to see pics...just come over. Methinks it will be quicker. And, if you call me first, I'll make cookies, um-kay. Otherwise, just sit tight everyone and I will figure out a way to get some stinkin' pictures up. Although it goes against every principal I stand for, I may have to break down and buy a new cord (I hate purchasing something I know is somewhere under my nose and will most likely show up after I buy a replacement). But, perhaps having a back-up cord will not be such a bad thing.

Demolition Day.

Well, yesterday we officially started demo on the ol' money sucker. We ripped up the old wood flooring which resulted in a sprung leak in our radiant heat, but we are hopeful that the leak can be easily repaired. Shame on whoever thought it all right to nail wood floor over radiant heat.
Next to go was the hid-e-ous tile in the entry and kitchen. Thankfully no leaky surprises there.
The best surprise however, didn't come until the demo guy started ripping out the old kitchen appliances. Apparently a little mousy decided to take up residence behind the dishwasher...complete with nest-o-babies and all. It was all I could do not to blow serious chunks when Chad told me this little nugget of info. Consequently, we will be calling out an exterminator STAT. We may also have to rethink our decision to try and salvage the kitchen cabinets. I don't particularly care for mouse droppings in or around where food is eaten and prepared.
Tomorrow will be "ripping out the carpet day", followed by "fix all the holes in the walls day". After that I'm not sure. Hopefully neither day will result in a surprise of the creepy critter kind.
Pictures to come shortly. Check back soon...if you dare.

Pictures...Finally.

I finally have pictures of the ol' housey house. I have to be honest, I am seriously exhausted just thinking about all of the work we have ahead of us. I hope Chad and I don't despise each other by the time this is all over. My good friend, Malea, offered this piece of advice regarding remodeling a house...go to the temple, read the scriptures and don't get divorced. To her I say...I shall do my best. And now, for your viewing pleasure...

Front of house.Landscaping to come...later.

Kitchen. Imagine...white cabinets, black quartz counters, a new island (color to be determined...either black or stainless...most likely black) stainless steel appliances and hardwood floors.

Laundry room. Not sure what to do there, yet.

Living room. Pretty much a blank canvas. I like the lone halogen light atop the fireplace insert...nice touch.

Balcony.

Back yard.

Basement kitchen. Yet another project to complete. Imagine...again...white cabinets, black counters and...I'm not sure what else...paint.

Basement apartment living room. Imagine...carpet, or some other form of flooring and again, paint.

Hopefully the next round of pics will be a little more eye-catching...in a good way, I mean.

Get that chicken outta my house!!!

Guess what Chad just told me; the previous owner of the house had animals living with them. But not just your regular household animals like cats, dogs or fish...try rabbits and chickens...what the "eff". Now I don't feel so bad ripping everything out and starting from scratch. I wondered what that musty scent was every time I walked through the door. When I referred to it as a sty, I didn't mean it literally, but it looks like that's what it really was.

Welcome.

Welcome to our newly made, home renovation blog. We are still in the decision making process, so nothing exciting is expected to happen for a few more weeks. Please feel free to share any renovating tips you might have. This is the first time we've ever done this, so all suggestions (from knobs to sub-contractors) gladly accepted.
